An impression of Batavia
On occasion of the 130th anniversary of Petrus Donders, Batavia was provided with a thorough remake. Not only were buildings, monuments and sites rehabilitated, but a permanent exhibition was also put in the Pilgrim house. Now Batavia has become not only a very nice pilgrimage place, but also a very interesting place to visit for tourists or non-pilgrims. Batavia can only be reached by boat from the village of Boskamp in Saramacca, Suriname. In replacement of the former boat Peerke I, a new boat was purchased, called ‘Gabriel’. Below you will find an impression of Batavia today.
